PORTELLO - the sea exit of the Casteltown -at 50m approximately from the houses. A narrow strip of land besides the city walls, forming an exceptional background for the swimmers.
Ideal place for swimming if the sea is calm.
KOURKOULA a naturally formatted rocky swimming nest, midway the road to New Town-Gefyra. You go walking or by shuttle bus. “ With the grand rocks that are distinguished around the Venetians had started constructing a mole, but the project remained unfinished. The white rocks that emerge from the deep waters invite for diving and fishing”.
KAKAVOS BEACH
a) In the center of the New Town beach with umbrellas and chaise long
b) Further to the north, a nice beach with small pebble good for children. Diving from the surrounding rocks
c) “Pera Kakavo” further north more isolated
PORI BEACH
At 4 km north of New Town Monemvassia. A sandy beach with 2 little taverns. Continuing to the north there are found the remains of the ancient town of Epidaure Limiras with its sunken port.
AMBELAKIA BEACH –at 6 km south of Monemvassia- sandy beach with umbrellas and chairs/mini bar.
XYFIAS BEACH - at 6,5 km south of Monemvasia- more isolated beach with almyrikia (a special tree growing next to the salty water) is protected from the north winds while the almyrikia trees offer sun protection. Next to the beach the Melitzanakia tavern.
PLYTRA village BEACH - wonderful beach that reminds the Elafonissos landscape, in the village of Plytra, at 30km from Monemvasia towards Molaoi. When there are winds in Monemvassia it is absolutely calm in Plytra and vice versa. Before entering the village follow the arrow towards “Karavostasi” the export point in the past. The Karavostasi is a sandy beach with blue and shallow waters. Two waterfront taverns with very good inexpensive food (the Vassilis is where we treat ourselves for years).
You can find a detailed map with the location of each beach here.
